Lucinda Dunn: 20 glorious years

Today we’re celebrating this exceptional ballerina, who in 2011 achieved her 20th year with The Australian Ballet (and also gave birth to her second baby!). Lucinda is an inspiration within the company and to aspiring dancers everywhere. This mini-doco looks at her career from her earliest moments onstage in musical theatre numbers to her triumphs with The Australian Ballet.

And for a longer look at that faultless technique … here’s Lucinda dancing the La Favorita pas de deux.

En pointe!

A great deal of a ballerina’s life is spent on the tips of the toes. In this meditative mini-doco, three of our dancers take us through their personal pointe-shoe prep routines (featuring knives, matches and shellac) and wax reflective about nurturing their feet.

Our dancers go through 5000 pairs a year! Support us by donating to our Pointe Shoe fund.

After the rain on the beach at sunset

It’s opening night of our British Liaisons program in Melbourne tonight! And one of the things we’re most looking forward to is the lyrical pas de deux in Christopher Wheeldon’s After the Rain©. Can’t wait? Take a look at Damian Smith and Yuan Yuan Tan dancing it on Fire Island with a backdrop of sea and setting sun. Magical!

See After the Rain© as part of the British Liaisons program, running in Melbourne from 25 August to 3 September.

Romeo & Juliet: the dancers

In the second of our Romeo & Juliet mini-docos, we get a tantalising glimpse of some beautifully tender dance as Graeme and Janet make the love pas de deux on Madeleine Eastoe and Kevin Jackson, and Graeme shares his thoughts on casting and how to make each dancer shine.
